fulham has handsome striking canvases painted in the style of the 18-19th century frescoes from the grand mansion houses ("havelis") in shekawati in rajasthan.
the shekawati region was formerly highly prosperous, but the old trade routes changed, and it was left to decay. it comprises clusters of now uninhabited entire townships with exquisitely designed havelis, all reflective of a lifestyle from 1750 to 1900.
various forms of fine frescoes adorn these havelis. they range from scenes from indian mythology, geometric & floral patterns to impressions of the merchants from their travels, including new technology such as the airplanes, cars, & railway. the paintings conveyed to the women in the havelis the outside world that they would never see, confined to the house as they were.
